Jigsaw was set up in 1999 to support 6 children and has grown over the years to accommodate up to 60 pupils between the ages of 4 and 19 years. The School operates a one-on-one teaching ratio with individualised education plans to be implemented for each pupil using an applied behavioural approach.
One of only a handful of schools in the UK that uses Applied Behaviour Analysis as a teaching methodology – based around behavioural interventions and positive reinforcement - Jigsaw is also the only school across Europe to be fully accredited by CABAS® (comprehensive application of behavior analysis to schooling). CABAS® is an educational model based on scientific and evidence based procedures for classroom management, curriculum design, staff training and parent education and most importantly, to make education learner driven.
Rated over 6 categories: Pupils' achievement; Pupils' behavior and personal development; Quality of teaching; Quality of curriculum; Pupils' welfare, health and safety plus Leadership and Management, Jigsaw was given an 'outstanding' in all areas resulting in an "Outstanding" for Overall Effectiveness. Standout comments include the school having the "highest aspirations for pupils and the highest expectations of staff so that pupils' achievement and the quality of teaching are excellent." Staff were noted as having "an exceptional knowledge of the individual needs of each pupil and provide tailored learning tasks which enable and challenge them to succeed" resulting in pupils making "exceptional progress in managing and improving their behavior as a result of the strategies used to develop their communication and social skills."
Executive Head and CEO, Kate Grant, says "Everyone at Jigsaw works extremely hard to maintain the highest of standards of care and teaching for our pupils and commits to doing the very best work that can be done each and every day. To have this recognised by Ofsted once again is enormously rewarding and makes us all very proud."
