Dunsfold Park Energized By Solar Consent

Tuesday, 01 March 2011

Dunsfold Park Ltd was delighted on Wednesday 23rd February as Waverley Borough Council's Southern Area Planning Committee granted consent for a Solar Array on the aerodrome.

The Council's forward thinking in seizing the opportunity to support the Solar Array means the Borough will now become home to the first business park in the UK to be fed entirely by green energy.

Consent was granted for a 2 Megawatt Solar Array which will be located on 6.8 hectares of land at the aerodrome. The area identified is in a discreet location and perfectly orientated to make use of natural available light.

The scheme is set to bring wider environmental benefits by not only contributing to the decarbonisation of energy supply through renewable green energy to the existing business park, but also by providing the opportunity for excess green energy to be sold into the local grid network.

Jim McAllister, Chief Executive, Dunsfold Park Ltd. comments: "Sustainability and the green agenda is the foundation on which we continue to build our business. Our focus on green technologies and reducing the aerodrome's carbon footprint is slowly coming to fruition and we have been encouraged by the positive way in which Waverley Borough Council have embraced our plans. Not only will businesses in Dunsfold Park benefit from the solar energy but we have the opportunity to widen the supply in due course."

Implementation of the Solar Array will now begin with completion anticipated in approximately six months.
