Dunsfold Park Ltd was joined at the launch event by Lightsource Energy Ltd, the largest solar energy developer in the UK, and guests including    the Mayor and Mayoress of Waverley, Councillor Tony Gordon-Smith and Mrs Cathy Gordon-Smith, who helped officially open the facility.

In total 8,500 ground level solar panels have been installed at Dunsfold Aerodrome with the solar array set in a discreet location and perfectly orientated to make the most of the natural light. The capacity of the system is two megawatts; sufficient energy to supply approximately 670 households. The siting of the solar panels makes it possible for the electricity generated during working hours to be used by businesses at Dunsfold Park and, at weekends and times of high supply, for the excess 'green energy' to be fed back into the National Grid.

Dunsfold Park, one of the few large scale solar installations in Surrey, is the latest scheme to be completed by Lightsource working with its partner, Octopus Investments.  Together Lightsource and Octopus have already delivered a total of 13 large scale sites in the UK, installing almost 130,000 solar panels which generate a total capacity of over 32 megawatts.
