Surrey Aerodrome Commissions Taylor Review

Monday, 05 November 2012

Dunsfold Aerodrome has been the subject of much debate over the past decade and with the future of the site still undecided some 10 years after they acquired it, Dunsfold Park Ltd decided to commission Lord Taylor of Goss Moor to carry out an independent review of all the possible options for the site's future.

In commissioning the review Dunsfold Park Ltd is seeking to reassess options for Dunsfold Aerodrome in respect of the concerns and issues facing the County, the Borough of Waverley, the local business community and local residents in order to establish the best way forward in the interests of all stakeholders in the surrounding communities.

Lord Taylor has nationally recognised expertise around the issues of the sustainability of rural communities, localism, and the new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and is the author of the independent Taylor Review (a Government review commissioned in 2008 by the previous Government) which looked at how to reform the planning system to better address the challenges of rural housing and sustainable economic development.

Jim McAllister, Chief Executive of Dunsfold Park Ltd, said: "We acquired the aerodrome in 2002 and 10 years on the future of the site still remains undecided. Based on his experience and expertise in rural development, we took the decision to commission Lord Taylor to gather a variety of evidence and opinions in an effort to investigate all the options before us and in order to establish the best way forward not only in the interests of the aerodrome and its tenants, but also for the local community."
